Volunteer in India

Where you will Work:

You will volunteer in local community schools or orphanages in run down areas of the city. These institutions cater to economically weak, abused, and children who are facing difficulty in life. The education for these children is free and at the orphanages they are giving decent housing and food. In school the children are only learning through rote learning. You will work with age groups that are between 4 years to 16 years.

Timing: Monday to Friday 10:00am to 3:00pm; Lunch will be at 12.30-1.30pm

Benefits of this program:

India is one of the oldest living civilizations of the world and today, with exploding population, wounded history, political disinterest and prevailing poverty, education has been neglected to a great extent. The poor community is the most affected where education is either absent or negligible. Schools that cater to the poor only teach via rote learning and no added teaching aids are used.

Volunteers are important to teach the children in different ways and going beyond rote learning. Many children do not have access to good English speaking teachers and subjects like arts or music or drama. The parents of most children are mainly daily wage earners janitors, cleaners and tuktuk drivers. Many parents are not educated at all and some chidren are the first generation to be educated.  There is also a lack of facilities in schools like teaching aids and modern facilities like libraries or computer labs. With enough volunteer support we can help to build on these and give the children an education that they deserve.
